Hollywood's Biggest Night

It's Day-After-The-Oscars-Day! aka The Night James Franco Was High. Another national holiday (other than Model Monday of course) so today is just one big, fat double whammy! Awards season is officially over. I have been impatiently waiting for the most glamorous day in Hollywood and it finally arrived yesterday. Every award show up until now has been a warm-up for the Oscars and when it came to the red carpet, I was far from disappointed. There were so many amazing looks that I had to really narrow it down.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab couture. In. Love. As soon as I saw her get out of the limo, I screamed at the TV, Who is that?!?! Who is that?!! Oh My God WHO is that?!?! When I realized it was Mila Kunis I was even more in love. This lavender lace gown looks amazingly amazing against her skin tone and hair color. Hands down my favorite look the night. Here it is again from a straight forward angle.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein. She was the first one out on the red carpet and looked like a complete bombshell. Calvin Klein makes some of the most simple, beautiful gowns. I mean, who can pull off such a simple red dress, effortlessly without accessories? Not many.

Cate Blanchett wore this Givenchy Haute Couture silk chiffon gown. It's such an incredible dress and so unique. Embellished with pearls & crystals, it's complex but sophisticated, and no one could pull it off better than Cate Blanchett. You can't tell in the photo, but it was a very pale lavender. PS...check out the back. Now that is how you do it at the Oscars.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore this Calvin Klein sheath gown. It was such a sleek and modern look and I love the slick straight hair which always looks so great on her. My only critique would have been to ditch the Louis Vuitton brooch around her waist.

Natalie Portman looked absolutely stunning. I have never, I repeat never, seen someone look so gorgeous while pregnant. An empire waist is always the best way to go during a pregnancy, and this beautiful gown was designed by the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte (who also designed the tutus for Black Swan). And she won Best Actress! So deserved. And how cool is that baby going to be? I mean, come on, he was at the Academy Awards when his mom won her first Oscar....jealous.

Worst Dressed? They don't deserve a picture on my blog, so I'll put links. Click and Cringe.

Marisa Tomei
Nicole Kidman
Melissa Leo
Helena Bonham Carter

It's Monday...

You know what that means.. Model Monday! YES. I hope you can forgive me for missing two whole weeks of Model Monday (a travesty, I know) and I really hope we can still be friends? Phew. Okay, today's post is all about Gemma Ward. I hope you have all heard of her because she has been absolutely everywhere. I love Gemma Ward. Her baby doll face and ability to make anything look good is a perfect combination. She's a Gem right? Everyone pretend to laugh now...

One of the most interesting things about Gemma Ward is that she had no intention whatsoever of being a model! I know what you're thinking... how can someone with that face not even consider being a model? She explained in a Teen Vogue interview, that she accompanied her friends to a modeling competition and ended up being scouted herself:
I had come straight from my auntie and uncle's farm, and I was wearing this big gray barn jacket with mud all over it. When the scout came up to me, I said, 'No, thank you.' They forged my mum's signature [for mandatory parental consent], and pushed me in front of the cameras.
At 16, she was the youngest model to be named one of the "It Girls" in American Vogue. She has been in every designer's shows including Prada, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Valentino. She's been on 30 Vogue covers worldwide and she's been named by Forbes as one of the World's 15 top-earning supermodels. She was in John Mayer's music video for Daughters anddddd she was that creepy blonde girl in The Strangers...who knew! Now, at 23, she has a role in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides coming out this summer. Love her!

Paper Crown

Whether we watched her shows or pretended to hate them, we all know who Lauren Conrad is. The Laguna Beach native who has had previous lines that were not so successful (aside from her co-brand with Kohl's) she slightly lowered her price point and is now coming out with a new contemporary line called Paper Crown.

MTV had filmed a pilot episode for a new reality series following Lauren Conrad in the business world as she attempts to launch her line. They recently decided to pull the plug on the show (waaah), calling it too "high brow" for their network. Yeah, if you compare it to Jersey Shore... Now that the show is no longer, she is obviously going to lose a lot of possible publicity, which can definitely pose a threat to the success of the line.

Paper Crown, which will debut this fall, is somewhat casual chic with trendy basics like boyfriend blazers, leather shorts, blouses, tight cocktail dresses, and maxi dresses. A lot of pieces to mix and match and lots of opportunities to accessorize. I can totally see Lauren Conrad in almost all of these...but can you see yourself in them? And do you think the line will still be successful even with the loss of publicity without the TV show?

And the Grammy Goes To...

Guys. I can't believe I forgot about Model Monday. After one week, this tradition has already been ruined by my failure in realizing it was a holiday. So please forgive me, and get ready and prepare yourselves for the biggest, bestest, craziest Model Monday you could ever possibly imagine next week, okay?!

The Grammys were this past Sunday, and I kid you not, I watched everything from E!'s red carpet stuff at 4 all the way until the end at 10:30 that night. I know, I know....dedication. But seriously, as the month continues the award shows get better and better. And the Grammys were huge. So many great looks, but I put together a few of my favorite best dressed celebrities on the red carpet.

First and foremost, Selena Gomez. She was probably my absolute favorite. She is such a bombshell! She wore a J Mendel sparkly gown with minimal accessories and of course, gorgeous hair and makeup. For 18, she always stays so sophisticated and classy but still looks super hot.

Jennifer Hudson looked SO gorgeous! She wore a navy Versace mullet dress and black Louboutins and just looked flawless. Her makeup and hair are perfection. Not to mention, she looked just as good on stage during the Aretha Franklin tribute with those hot gold shoulders.

I think Lea Michele rocked this Emilio Pucci black gown. The only change I would've made would have been putting her hair up. With such strong shoulders, the hair kind of takes away from that. I love the hot pink lips and the seriously high platform pumps.

Drake opted for an all black tuxedo, which can be pretty daring, but he totally pulled off this one by Giorgio Armani. Very classy and pretty dressy but still very Drake. And can we talk about his performance with Eminem and Rihanna?? So good.

Justin Bieber. I literally die for this face. And this one. It's Bieber fever, people, and it's just unhealthy. He wore a Dolce & Gabbana white velvet tux and while not many can pull off the white tux, I have to give him credit for taking a chance with it. If only, if only he had ditched the sneakers. You just can't expect Justin Bieber to show up to any red carpet without a pair, but you have to admit he has swag.

Some disagree, but I loved Bruno Mars look. The hairstyle, the Dolce & Gabbana tux, everything was so retro and it was almost themed with his Grammy performance which was also amazing. I think I just love everything about Bruno Mars. Sorry the picture doesn't show the entire outfit, but it was the best I could find.

Last but not least, Lady Gaga. She was not a best dressed for me, but more of a Weirdest Dressed. I have to say I was completely underwhelmed. When she came out of the truck and "walked" the red carpet in a giant egg, I thought, oh my god this is going to be absolutely insane and amazing. But then..........it just wasn't. When she hatched out of this egg she had been "incubating" in I was expecting this amazing performance that would blow my mind but it didn't happen. Don't get me wrong, I love her but I mean hello, she did the most incredible two piano duet with Elton John last year and it just really didn't compare for me. Maybe next year...

With a Best Dressed List, comes a Worst Dressed. Hayley Williams - please never mix hot pink with your fire red hair again. Kim Kardashian - I am begging you, stop showing up to awards shows where you really don't belong in a gold glitter dress from 2001 again. It's just frumpy, and if you don't want to be considered a "sex symbol" as you claim, that dress isn't helping. Nicki Minaj - you are not Lady Gaga. You cannot pull off the Frankenstein Bride hair anywhere other than your skit on SNL.

I can't even explain how excited I am for the Oscars. From the red carpet to the acceptance speeches, it's going to be the biggest and the best. And don't even get me started on the fact that James Franco (in love) and Anne Hathaway are hosting.....MAJOR. I'm going to make "Go Natalie Portman!!!!" signs and hold them up the entire time.

You should too.

That 70's Runway Show

Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs. Oh how I love Marc Jacobs.
He completely recreated the 70's in his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. But where do I even begin? Stripes and geometric prints. Peasant blouses and full skirts. Gold hot pants and strapless jumpsuits. Skinny-rib sweaters and flared trousers. Baby-dolls and big hats. Sheer chiffons in hot colors like fuschia, pink, violet and mustard yellow (perfectly matching my blog...I knew he planned it all along). Then there were the accessories. Giant hibiscus and orchid flowers. Waist corsages. Enormous straw hats. Square and rectangular clutches. Glitter dusted platform sandals. Oversized shades. I'm out of breath.

The collection was no doubt inspired by Yves Saint Laurent from back in the day, but Marc Jacobs is the first to admit it. After being one of the most copied designers since his grunge days in the 90s, it's only fair he turns the tables this season, don't you think?

With FW 2011 New York Fashion Week going on as I speak, I can't wait to see what my main man has hiding up his sleeve! What do you think of the collection? Let me know in the comments! :)

Model Monday!

Okay so. Every monday from here on out will formally be known as Model Monday. It's all really official and exciting and the governor's turning it into a holiday and yes, I might be making that last part up but that's okay because I'm still really excited about it. You may have figured out by now that I like fashion a little bit...but I also really really love models. Luhhhve. Well, not in the way a boy likes models (haha) but in a man-your-life-must-be-incredible-and-your-beautiful-and-I'm-jealous-and-gosh-I-love-those-clothes kind of way. It makes me really secretly happy when I recognize certain favorites of mine in a fashion spread, campaign or runway show...like I'm a proud mama. And I've always just been really interested in them in general. So why not blog about a different one each week? ..That's what I thought!

Alright, first up. Karlie Kloss. Ugh, if only I could be her for a day...or three. I have an odd obsession with her. She's been in every fashion magazine imaginable including the big names like W Magazine, American Elle, and virtually every Vogue magazine in the world.  Karlie has become a muse for John Galliano and opened his shows as well as the Christian Dior Haute Couture SS 2011 and resort shows. She's been on literally every designer's runway during Fashion Week including Marc Jacobs, J. Mendel, Dolce & Gabbana, Nini Ricci, Lanvin, DVF, Michael Kors, Derek Lam, Jason Wu, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Chloe, Proenza Schouler, Jil Sander, Emilio Pucci, Missoni, Christopher Kane, Versace....and that's just to name a few. She's the face of Marc Jacob's fragrance Lola and she's only eighteen years old. Whaaaat? I could go on and on talking about everything she has done because trust me it never ends. But I'll leave you with a montage instead because as they say...a picture is worth a thousand words.

Love Her!
